Iphone Apps Best Gps

Robert asks…

What are the best gps dating apps for iphone?

There seem to be so many different gps dating apps for the iphone. It’s really hard to distinguish which are the best ones and which ones have the most people around. I’m curious to know if any of you have experience or know of the biggest and/or best gps dating apps around for the iphone, especially for the NY Metro area. Thanks.

There isnt a better FREE maps app for iphone than the included one, because how would the people that have their own database, make the maps from scratch, and host with a satellite make any money?

Susan asks…

What are the best apps that utilize the features of the iPhone 3G?

I’ve had the old school 1st gen iPhone (EDGE, no GPS, etc.) for a couple of years now and just finally switched to the new iPhone 3G.

Having never been able to use any of the GPS features I was wondering if anyone out there could suggest some cool apps in the Apple App Store that take advantage of the 3G’s GPS and other features.

Thanks in advance!

Best App for GPS is the Maps! It’s simple, but if you know how to use it, you will be amazed at how many things it can do. To get directions, just type your destination and search for it. You don’t have to put the city or state because the GPS knows where you are and use your current location to find where you want to go. Also, if you need a burger, just type in Burger in the search window and it will find all the resturants in your immediate surroundings. Just touch the red pin of your choice and then touch the blue arrow that will appear when you touch it. Scroll down to the area where it says “Get Directions” and you will get step by step directions to your destination. If you are on the road, search and then change the start section to “Current Location”and it will give you directions based on your current location.
There are so many I can’t type them all here, but the one I mentioned is the one I use the most. Almost too often if you will.

What are the best apps for the iphone to protect against lost or stolen phone?

There is an app for jailbroken phones called ‘Cylay’ which not only has a gps tracker, but remotely lets you take a picture from your iphone if it gets stolen to see who took your phone, any good apps out there similar to this?

Solution 1: ihound

This free security program alerts you when your iphone is connected to another individual’s computer. It will also track down the location of where your device is being used.

When your missing iPhone is being plugged in to a computer, you will:
1. Get an email saying that your tracked device is being located.
2. Get a detailed report on where it is being used by logging in to iHound’s website.

The second method can be very useful when the stolen iPhone is switched off and later gets connected to a computer for changing software or formatting the memory card.

Solution 2: Navizon

Navizon is a hybrid positioning system combining GPS, Wi-Fi and Cellular triangulation techniques. It calculates the geographic location of a wireless device by analyzing the signals from nearby Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers and comparing it against a database of known data points. A new option called Locate-by-SMS allows you to locate your lost iPhone by just sending an SMS text message to it.

Solution 3: MobileMe

Apple has announced a new service called Find My iPhone that will allow iPhone owners to remotely locate their lost or stolen iPhones using the iPhone’s GPS. The service will be available as part of Apple’s MobileMe online subscription service.

Find My iPhone will pinpoint the iPhone’s current location using Google Maps and let owners send and display a message on the iPhone even if it’s locked, presumably to provide information on how to return the phone to the finder of the phone. The Find My iPhone feature can also force the iPhone to play a sound for 2 minutes, which is useful for not only getting the attention of the finder of iPhone but also locating it between couch cushions.

The Find My iPhone feature will require a subscription to Apple’s MobileMe service, which costs $99 a year (currently $65.99 on Amazon.com) after a free 2-month trial.
