Google Iphone Apps Maps

David asks…

Can I access iPhone 3G applications even after ejecting the SIM? Just the applications like Youtube, G Maps?

Hi guys,

I planned to get an iPhone 3G. I know that it comes with 2 yr contract with AT&T. So, I would be able to make/receive calls only with the AT&T sim. But I wanna ask you guys – If I would be able to just use the iPhone‘s applications like iPod, Youtube, Google Maps without the SIM Card ?? I have a WI-FI in my home to enable internet access. So, would that be possible to use iPhone apps without sim in it ????? Thanks!
Yup, I know what iPod Touch is all about. I ask this because I travel overseas a lot, and I dont want to get roaming charges for my calls by AT&T. I would rather prefer to just use the iPhone applications with Wi-Fi Access. So, is that possible?

What is Verizon’s closet phone to the Iphone?

I am switching from At&t to verizon and am looking for a phone similar to my Iphone. My main concerns are being able to use the internet easily, google maps, a decent camera and video, and being able to get apps. Any suggestions? Thanks!

admin answers:

As much as i hate to say it, Droid is going to be what you want. Only if you absolutely have to go with verizon though…. If i didnt have an iPhone 3gs already, i would buy the original iPhone before i bought a Droid.

I have tried www.jailbreakme.com and I see nothing.

THank You xx

admin answers:

Yep, you’re prolly gonna have to jailbreak in 1.1.2 i’m currently running broken 1.1.1 / but from most vids i’ve seen on youtube, 1.1.2 has those apps.

When you’re in the installer, new packages may be available. Try refreshing, and scrolling through the whole list and find the “sources” category (there are new installers available as well as sources that you could install that opens up more apps) youtube also offers vids and links trough sendspace for certain apps you need. I.e. When you hold shift and click the (check for/updates) when you’re in itunes to get you to 1.1.2 then jailbreak.

Daniel asks…

Why won’t the Location Service on my IPhone 3G 3.1.2 find my location anymore?

I run an unlocked 3.1.2 version iPhone 3G – after I upgraded and hacked it with blackra1n – I have lost the ability to locate myself on Google Maps and all other apps that rely on Location Services (GPS) have stopped working. Has anyone else faced this issue and how have you resolved it?
I have tried most of the reset, go out in a field, etc method and none have worked for me.

Susan asks…

What are the best apps that utilize the features of the iPhone 3G?

I’ve had the old school 1st gen iPhone (EDGE, no GPS, etc.) for a couple of years now and just finally switched to the new iPhone 3G.

Having never been able to use any of the GPS features I was wondering if anyone out there could suggest some cool apps in the Apple App Store that take advantage of the 3G’s GPS and other features.

Thanks in advance!

admin answers:

Best App for GPS is the Maps! It’s simple, but if you know how to use it, you will be amazed at how many things it can do. To get directions, just type your destination and search for it. You don’t have to put the city or state because the GPS knows where you are and use your current location to find where you want to go. Also, if you need a burger, just type in Burger in the search window and it will find all the resturants in your immediate surroundings. Just touch the red pin of your choice and then touch the blue arrow that will appear when you touch it. Scroll down to the area where it says “Get Directions” and you will get step by step directions to your destination. If you are on the road, search and then change the start section to “Current Location”and it will give you directions based on your current location.
There are so many I can’t type them all here, but the one I mentioned is the one I use the most. Almost too often if you will.

What are the best apps for the iphone to protect against lost or stolen phone?

There is an app for jailbroken phones called ‘Cylay’ which not only has a gps tracker, but remotely lets you take a picture from your iphone if it gets stolen to see who took your phone, any good apps out there similar to this?

admin answers:

Solution 1: ihound

This free security program alerts you when your iphone is connected to another individual’s computer. It will also track down the location of where your device is being used.

When your missing iPhone is being plugged in to a computer, you will:
1. Get an email saying that your tracked device is being located.
2. Get a detailed report on where it is being used by logging in to iHound’s website.

The second method can be very useful when the stolen iPhone is switched off and later gets connected to a computer for changing software or formatting the memory card.

Solution 2: Navizon

Navizon is a hybrid positioning system combining GPS, Wi-Fi and Cellular triangulation techniques. It calculates the geographic location of a wireless device by analyzing the signals from nearby Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers and comparing it against a database of known data points. A new option called Locate-by-SMS allows you to locate your lost iPhone by just sending an SMS text message to it.

Solution 3: MobileMe

Apple has announced a new service called Find My iPhone that will allow iPhone owners to remotely locate their lost or stolen iPhones using the iPhone’s GPS. The service will be available as part of Apple’s MobileMe online subscription service.

Find My iPhone will pinpoint the iPhone’s current location using Google Maps and let owners send and display a message on the iPhone even if it’s locked, presumably to provide information on how to return the phone to the finder of the phone. The Find My iPhone feature can also force the iPhone to play a sound for 2 minutes, which is useful for not only getting the attention of the finder of iPhone but also locating it between couch cushions.

The Find My iPhone feature will require a subscription to Apple’s MobileMe service, which costs $99 a year (currently $65.99 on Amazon.com) after a free 2-month trial.

Like it says it will take 1012 minutes to get 1/29 for my characters energy when it usually takes 3 minutes to get 1/29 energy. I don’t know what to do except reset settings but I don’t want to loose all my game data and things. Help?

Daniel asks…

How to get my apps back on my iPhone?

Okay so, I got an iPhone about two months ago, and I have NO clue how to work iTunes. Well my brother got an iPod Touch the same time. So when ever I sync my iPhone and then unplug it, I have all of my brothers apps! I have mine and my brothers. So I have to delete all of the, which takes a long time cuz he has a bunch and it takes a long time. And when ever my brother syncs his iPod, the same thing happens! My apps get on his! So what I did is that when nothing was plugged into the usb thing, and no one was signed into iTunes, I deleted all of the apps from the app side bar thing and then signed into my account and they synced my iPhone and that time my brothers apps didn’t get on mine! So I started doing this. Then yesteday I accidentally did it when I was signed into my account. And I think something went wrong with my internet connection because when I was syncing and in the little green thing at the top of itunes it said that it was “Finishing Sync.” But the problem is that it said finishing sync for like two hours! So I just canceled the sync by sliding the thing on my iPhone. Then this morning I realized that half of my apps were gone! And about $7 of them were gone too! But my photos and contacts and all the other stuff was there! So, I have 2 questions. the first one is: How to get all of my apps back? and the second one is: how to sync my iphone without getting my brothers apps.( when we sync our devices, we log into our seperate accounts). Please answer!!!!!! Thanks! (sorry the description is soo long!)

admin answers:

You need your own itune account when singing into iTunes. That’s the only way you won’t lose your apps. Or use itune on your iPhone. Cause I have an iPhone and I only use the computer to update my phone. Hope this helps.

Syncing music on my iphone..?

Ok so i went on itunes and clicked on my iphone tool bar and i went to my iphone info thingy and at the top it gives me a list
Summary info apps tones music movies ect so i clicked music and i wanna sync all the music from my itunes libary onto my phone but it says ” an i phone can be synced with only one itunes libary at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contences of this iphone with the contents of this itunes libary” does that mean its going to erase EVERYTHING on my phone i just got a new laptop and a new itunes and i dont want everything to be gone i just the new music from my new itunes

admin answers:

Basically, Apple doesn’t want you running to all you friend’s houses syncing to their iTunes libraries, so they force you to sync your phone to a single PC.

Now that said, what it should do is erase all your music on your phone and replace it with whatever you select/whatever is in the iTunes library you have now. You don’t lose contacts or apps or photos. Just any iTunes content. Music/movies etc.

Cheers!
